Donald Trump has brought in at least $19 million toward his joint fund with the Republican National Committee and added around $3 million to his own campaign, with most of the money coming in through New York City fundraisers in June, a top aide says.

"Given we launched this at the end of May, we couldn't be happier with how this is progressing," Steven Mnuchin, national finance chairman for the joint committee, Trump Victory, told The Wall Street Journal

"We were very surprised at some of the articles commenting on the lack of funding, particularly given we had just started the fundraising at the end of May, and the campaign has been self-financed prior to that."

According to Mnuchin, the committee brought in at least $10 million through New York City fundraisers. Another $9 million was brought in through events in Texas, a source close to the Texas fundraisers said.

In addition, the presumptive Republican nominee's pledge earlier this week to match up to $2 million in donations brought in another $3 million for his campaign, Mnuchin said.

The Trump campaign ended May with just $1.3 million, compared to Democratic presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton, whose campaign ended the month with $42 million.

Trump's campaign will not get much of the money he brought in for the RNC's joint fund. The campaign can accept up to $5,400 per person, with the remainder going to the RNC and to 11 state parties. Meanwhile, the Trump Victory fund can accept checks up to $449,400 per person. It transferred $3 million to the RNC at the end of May, but nothing to Trump's campaign because of administrative reasons, said Mnuchin.

"I don't think he loves the idea of asking for money from people," Anthony Scaramucci, founder of a New York-based hedge fund who joined the campaign in late April, told The Wall Street Journal. "But I think he recognizes as the Republican leader on the top of the ticket, it's a very good team play to go out there and raise money."
