A Huffington Post writer says a violent response is the logical approach to stopping presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump.

In a blog headlined "Sorry Liberals, A Violent Response Is As Good As Any," Jesse Benn writes, "There's an inherent value in forestalling Trump's normalization. Violent resistance accomplishes this.

"In spite of this, such resistance is apparently more offensive and unacceptable to societal norms and liberal sensibilities than the nastiness being resisted in the first place.

"Violent resistance matters. Riots can lead to major change."

The Washington Examiner noted, "Some readers thought the piece went too far — particularly in light of several incidents of violence against Trump supporters at campaign rallies in Arizona and California."

But the Huffington Post defended Benn's right to give his opinion on the web site.

"The Jesse Benn piece is an opinion piece published on our open platform on a topic that is currently being debated in the media," a Post spokesperson told the Examiner, adding that the blog pieces are self-published and aren't edited from Huffington Post staff.
