Rep. Doug Collins, who was chosen by the Trump campaign to oversee the recount efforts in his home state of Georgia, said Tuesday that Democrats are only worried about voter suppression when they are the ones losing the race.
"Let's make sure we do have an accounting and make sure that our ballots that are cast match voter rolls," the Georgia Democrat told Fox Business' Maria Bartiromo, adding that if there are ballots from people who are voting illegally, those should be cast out.
"This is simply following the law and that’s what we are asking the secretary of state to do," said Collins.
Meanwhile, former gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams has been making many claims on voter suppression, but people were voting, said Collins.
However, some of them voted illegally, including people who have moved away and are no longer legal residents.
"We are getting reports every day," said Collins. They say, "I voted absentee when I didn't get a ballot."
Later on Tuesday, Collins said in a statement released by the Trump campaign that Georgia should conduct the recount by hand, instead of just rescanning ballots because of "widespread allegations of voter irregularities, issues with voting machines, and poll watcher access."
"We can — and we will — petition for this in court after statewide certification is completed if the secretary of state fails to act," said Collins.
Election officials in the state maintain there is no evidence of widespread voter fraud, and even if some instances of it are found, that's not likely to change the election's outcome.
