Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has defended himself against attacks by President Donald Trump for certifying Democrat Joe Biden’s win in the state.

Although he did not mention Trump by name, Ducey, a Republican, explained on Twitter why the allegations of voter fraud in his state were untrue.

“I’ve been pretty outspoken about Arizona’s election system and bragged about it quite a bit, including in the Oval Office. And for good reason,” he wrote, saying Arizona has “some of the strongest election laws in the country, laws that prioritize accountability and clearly lay out procedures for conducting, canvassing, and even contesting the results of an election.”

He added, “The problems that exist in other states simply don’t apply here. I’ve also said all along, I’m going to follow the law … I’ve sworn an oath to uphold it, and I take my responsibility seriously.”

Trump had earlier lashed out at Ducey, writing in a tweet, “Why is he rushing to put a Democrat in office, especially when so many horrible things concerning voter fraud are being revealed at the hearing going on right now.”

In the middle of the certification process, Ducey ignored a call from what appeared to be Trump, TMC reported.

Mediaite reported that Ducey knew it was a call from Trump that he was declining to answer because he had customized the ringtone on his phone to play “Hail to the Chief” every time the president called him directly.
