Republicans will retake Alabama Sen. Doug Jones’ seat in the November elections, President Donald Trump predicted in a tweet on Sunday.
"So good to see that Republicans will be winning the Great State of Alabama Senate Seat back, now that lightweight Senator @DougJones cast a partisan vote for the Impeachment Hoax,” the president wrote. “Thought his boss, Cryin’ Chuck, would have forced him to vote against the Hoax. A Do Nothing Stiff!"
Jones was one of a few Democratic senators from red states who were said to be considering bucking their party by deciding to acquit Trump, but in the end all Democrats voted against the president over the articles of impeachment, along with Republican Sen. Mitt Romney, according to The Hill.
Jones won a special election in 2017 to complete the term started by Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions, who left the Senate in order to become attorney general in the Trump administration.
