The “recession phase” is over and the economy will be on a “slow pace” to pre-pandemic lockdown levels, according to Stephen Moore, economist and ally of President Donald Trump.
In an interview Sunday with radio host John Catsimatidis of "The Cat's Roundtable," Moore said there are already positive signs of a return in states that have allowed businesses to reopen, The Hill reported.
“It’s going to take a while for this economy to get back on its feet,” Moore said. “We did a lot of damage in March and April and May. But the good news is the recession phase is over and the recovery phase is here.”
“Things will get better, but at a slow pace," he said.
Moore said lifting stay-at-home orders in some states has already fueled some economic activity, and urged Democratic-led states to "get with the program."
“People are starting to put their toe back in the water and going out,” he said. “It’s time to get back to normal. We cannot live in fear.”
According to Moore, the nation needs a leader like Trump during the coronavirus crisis — and urged Democratic-led states to “get with the program.”
“Thank goodness we have a businessman who’s been successful who’s guiding us through this,” he said.
“I love his line: ‘I built the economy once, I’m going to rebuild it again,’” Moore said. “But he’s not getting a lot of cooperation from these Democratic mayors and Democratic governors. They got to get with the program.”
