Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., blasted the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives for its "baseless and illegal" impeachment of President Donald Trump during her address Wednesday at the Republican National Convention, calling it an attack on the voters.
"Since his first day in office, President Trump has fought tirelessly to deliver results for all Americans, despite the Democrats' baseless and illegal impeachment sham, and the media's endless obsession with it," she said on the third night of the convention. "I was proud to lead the effort to stand up for the Constitution, President Trump, and most importantly, the American people.
"This attack was not just on the president. It was an attack on you, your voice, and your vote."
Stefanik, 36, the youngest Republican woman ever elected to the Congress when in 2014 she claimed the seat from New York's rural 21st District encompassing Revolutionary War battleground Saratoga and Winter Olympics venue Lake Placid, emerged as a key early defender of Trump.
She blasted House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., for "making up the rules as he goes."
"We understand that this election is a choice between the far-left, Democratic-socialist agenda versus protecting and preserving the American dream," Stefanik said.
She also contrasted Trump against Democrat nominee Joe Biden on their approaches to economic restrictions during the novel coronavirus outbreak.
"President Trump is working to safely reopen our main street economy," Stefanik said. "He understands that the engine of our economy is fueled by the ingenuity and determination of American workers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses.
"Joe Biden wants to keep them locked up in the basement and crush them with $4 trillion in new taxes."
