Eric Trump defended his father in the ongoing feud with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., and also claimed allegations of sexual misconduct against the president are "totally unfounded and baseless."
Trump's comments came in an interview with WABC radio host Rita Cosby on Wednesday.
"Yeah, and I remember Kirsten Gillibrand when she came into his office every three days asking for money and asking for major campaign contributions," Trump said. "There is no one who wanted to get into his office more than Kirsten Gillibrand."
He claimed she's following the "playbook" of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.
"Again, it's a shame, but it's a distraction," he said. "I think we've gotten pretty good at tuning out distractions — at least I have."
President Trump had tweeted on Tuesday:
Gillibrand has called for the president to resign over allegations of sexual assault, CNN noted.
"President Trump has committed assault, according to these women, and those are very credible allegations of misconduct and criminal activity, and he should be fully investigated and he should resign," Gillibrand told CNN.
But Eric Trump dismissed the allegations against his father.
"I think the allegations are totally unfounded and baseless," he said. It's very sad."
He ripped into Democrats' call for an investigation into the allegations.
"First of all, it's total nonsense," Trump said. "But it's amazing as soon as Russia starts fizzling out, which was their narrative of the week, then all of the sudden it's an investigation over this, then it will be an investigation over that. And when those things fizzle out it'll be another investigation over this."
Trump called his father "the greatest guy in the world."
Meanwhile, he said the president is concentrating on getting tax reform through Congress.
"I hope this tax reform thing goes though, because I think it will be so fantastic for this country, for small businesses, for individuals," he said. "I think it makes us more competitive as a nation. I'm just proud of the job he's doing."
