President Donald Trump's anger and frustration over a member of special counsel Robert Mueller's team sending anti-Trump text messages is behind his lashing out at the FBI on Twitter, The Hill reports.
"When you see this partisan bend, there's a desire there to respond," The Hill quoted a former Trump campaign and transition official. "You have the president pointing out the FBI needs to be free of this bias."
Still, some sources told the website, Trump's legal team does not plan to change its legal strategy as a result of the news.
The FBI agent, Peter Strzok, was reassigned earlier this year when it was discovered he had sent the texts that were critical of Trump and praising of Hillary Clinton.
Reports of the story over the weekend brought out new charges from the president and allies that Mueller's investigation into possible collusion between Trump's team and Russia are actually a political "witch hunt."
Trump noted the stories in The New York Times and The Washington Post about Strzok who also was involved in the probe of Clinton's private email server that ended up bringing no charges.
"Now it all starts to make sense!" Trump tweeted.
"After years of Comey, with the phony and dishonest Clinton investigation (and more), running the FBI, its reputation is in Tatters — worst in History! But fear not, we will bring it back to greatness," he said in another tweet.
