Republican pollster Frank Luntz admitted that Tuesday's presidential election, which is not yet finalized, showed that the political polling industry is doomed.
Four years after the vast majority of polls wrongly predicted that Democrat Hillary Clinton would win, the results so far from this election indicate it will be much closer than the polls showed it would be — regardless of the outcome.
"The political polling profession is done. It is devastating for my industry," Luntz told Axios Tuesday evening around 11 p.m. as votes were being counted nationwide.
The final national polling average computed by RealClearPolitics showed Democrat Joe Biden leading President Donald Trump by 7.2 percentage points. As of Wednesday morning, several battleground states were too close to call, mostly because mail-in ballots were still being tallied.
Newsmax shows Biden with 227 electoral votes, compared to 214 for Trump. A candidate needs 270 electoral votes to win.
