Former Vice President Joe Biden is set to headline a fundraiser for Phil Bredesen, the former two-term Tennessee governor pursuing the Democratic nomination for Bob Corker's U.S. Senate seat.
The event for the Bredesen Victory Fund is scheduled for Tuesday, April 10 at 1 p.m. CT in Nashville, at a location to be announced.
It is billed as a "coffee and conversation" with the 47th vice president, The Tennessean reports.
Hosts include two of Tennessee's major Democratic fundraisers, real estate executive Bill Freeman and attorney Charles Bone.
The newspaper says Biden's involvement is "a sign of the national attention" the Tennessee race is expected to draw.
Biden has been on the stump recently for several Democrats, including Conor Lamb, who won special congressional election in Pennsylvania, and Doug Jones, who bested Roy Moore for Senate in Alabama.
Bredesen announced he would run for the open seat in the United States Senate, after Corker said he would not seek re-election in 2018.
Other Democrats seeking the party nomination are Billy Bailey, lead pastor at Evidence Church, and Gary Davis, a bakery worker and licensed pilot.
Republicans vying for the GOP nod include: Rep. Marsha Blackburn; Larry Crim, CEO of Christian Counseling Centers of America; Steven Hughes, an industrial services representative; Aaron Pettigrew, a commercial trucker driver and Rolando Toyos, an ophthalmologist.
