As President Donald Trump weighs declaring a national emergency to address the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border, a Gallup poll estimates 42 million Latin Americans would like to migrate to the United States permanently.

"Gallup Poll: 'Open Borders will potentially attract 42 million Latin Americans,'" President Trump tweeted Sunday morning. "This would be a disaster for the U.S. We need the Wall now!"

Gallup's 42 million estimate comes from a poll that found 27 percent of Latin America's 450 million adults would like to migrate (roughly 121 million), including 35 percent which specified the U.S. as the desired destination (roughly 42 million).

"Forty-two million seekers of citizenship or asylum are watching to determine exactly when and how is the best time to make the move," Gallup's Jim Clifton blogged. "This suggests that open borders could potentially attract 42 million Latin Americans. A full 5 million who are planning to move in the next 12 months say they are moving to the U.S."

President Trump is attempting to negotiate with Democrats in Congress to help fund $5.7 billion for a border wall, but Democrats are not budging from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's insistence on no money allocated for a wall she deems "immoral."

"I don't think the Dems on the Border Committee are being allowed by their leaders to make a deal," a subsequent President Trump tweet read. "They are offering very little money for the desperately needed Border Wall & now, out of the blue, want a cap on convicted violent felons to be held in detention!"

President Trump has reopened temporary government funding to end a shutdown to allow time to negotiate the border wall at Democrats' request, but no progress is being reported.

"It was a very bad week for the Democrats, with the GREAT economic numbers, The Virginia disaster, and the State of the Union address," President Trump's ensuing tweet added. "Now, with the terrible offers being made by them to the Border Committee, I actually believe they want a Shutdown. They want a new subject!"
