Bush 41 Endorses David Perdue in Georgia Senate Race
(Office of George Bush)
Former President George H.W. Bush has endorsed Republican Georgia Senate candidate David Perdue, Politico reports.

Perdue traveled to Maine over the weekend to secure the endorsement, says a press release from Perdue's office, Politico reports.

An interesting wrinkle in the endorsement is that Perdue's Democratic opponent in November is Michelle Nunn, former head of Bush's Points of Light Foundation. Nunn has featured a photo of Bush in a previous campaign ad.

Bush said nothing negative about Nunn in his endorsement of Perdue, but did note that the former CEO of Dollar General has "the kind of real-world experience that Washington, D.C., is sorely lacking today."

Bush had sent an email in June seeking donations for a group set up to help whoever the GOP nominee ended up being.

Bush said in his endorsement that he is "genuinely worried about the direction in which our beloved country is heading —  and I understand many Georgians share this deep concern."

Bush also said he has lost confidence in the current Senate leadership, headed by Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat. Republicans hope to get six more Senate seats and retain control of the House of Representatives.
