Geraldo Rivera defended White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci for his comments in a phone call with New Yorker reporter Ryan Lizza.
"He spoke exactly the truth. The West Wing is absolutely riddled with rats. The president comes to work every day and the rats crawl over his polished shoes. Everybody's a rat. That's why he surrounds himself with Jared Kushner and Ivanka and family. The family is the one entity that he can trust," said Rivera Friday on Fox News' "Fox & Friends."
"What he said was absolutely true. [Chief of Staff'] Reince Priebus comes from the deep state. He is a died in the wool establishment GOP guy who got dragged in, kicking and screaming, after Trump's nomination was inevitable. He's not a Trump guy," Rivera said.
"I don't trust him," Rivera added, referring to Priebus.
The president should clean house and only keep those he can depend on, such as former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who would "take a bullet" for Trump, according to Rivera.
Rivera also defended the "locker-room banter" Scaramucci used in the phone conversation. He said that is how people talk where Scaramucci comes from, the Long Island section of New York. Rivera noted that himself, Fox News host Sean Hannity, former host Bill O'Reilly, and actor Alec Baldwin all come from the same area. "I get where Anthony Scaramucci is coming from, where the language is from."
The former television talk-show host added that he would have been happy to take on the communications director job. "The Scaramucci job is a job that I would have loved," Rivera added.
Rivera said in a Friday tweet that Scaramucci is "clumsy and raw," but supports the president.
