Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich would like to see Donald Trump stop using Twitter without help and input from an aide.

According to comments cited by The Hill, Gingrich said Wednesday Trump's social media use is hardly presidential.

"I think he ought to quit tweeting by himself, period," Gingrich said.

"I don't think you want a president of the United States who randomly tweets. You want somebody who thinks it through, has staff check it out. I mean — I very much am opposed to this 3 a.m. baloney."

Gingrich's 3 a.m. remark was referring to Trump's Twitter storm that occurred after the first presidential debate last month.

After current House Speaker Paul Ryan said this week he will no longer offer public support for Trump's presidential campaign, Trump went on another Twitter tirade and criticized the Republican lawmaker from Wisconsin.

Trump often uses Twitter to amplify his thoughts and criticisms of others, mostly Democrat Hillary Clinton.
