Giuliani: Russia Investigation Will Spur Trump Voters

Giuliani: Russia Investigation Will Spur Trump Voters

President Donald Trump's supporters are "much more excited" about voting in the midterm elections because of the ongoing investigation into Russian election interference, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani said Monday.

"It has his people much more excited now than before,” Giuliani, now working as Trump’s personal attorney, told Politico. He added that Democrats were smart to avoid discussing impeachment in their election strategy.

"They’ve backed off that because they realize that could really, really backfire on them," Giuliani said. “I don’t think anywhere near a majority of the American people want to see an impeachment interrupt the good work the president is doing."

He also said that Trump is still hopeful that he and special counsel Robert Mueller can agree to a face-to-face meeting.

"I think the president would like that,” Giuliani said. “The question is, would his lawyers?"

And despite the recent controversy over some of his televised interviews, Giuliani said that he plans to keep making TV appearances “selectively, and when we want to set the agenda. It’s far better that I draw the fire than the president. That's what a lawyer is for. Some lawyers don’t think so. I think he’s very comfortable now that someone is doing that for him.”
