President Donald Trump has trumped former President Barack Obama in one infamous statistic, his golfing tab, according to HuffPost.
Trump has spent $118 million on golf outings in his first three years, per Secret Service spending reports, while Obama had spent $114 total in eight, Newsweek had reported, citing Judicial Watch.
The number would not be that noteworthy, save for the fact Trump had promised the opposite when he was campaigning for the presidency.
"I love golf, but if I were in the White House, I don't think I'd ever see Turnberry again; I don’t ever think I'd see Doral again," Trump told a Florida rally in 2016, per Law&Crime. "I own Doral in Miami. I don't think I'd ever see many of the places that I have.
"I don't really ever think I'd see anything – I just want to stay in the White House and work my ass off and make great deals."
One of the few times Trump did stay at the White House over vacation was late last December, when the government was shut down and the president could not travel.
The golfing campaign promise irony was also pointed out Friday via Twitter by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) researcher Robert Maguire:
"In Dec 2015, candidate Trump criticized Obama, who had been president for 7yrs, saying Obama had 'played 250 rounds of golf'
Today, Trump is making his 251st taxpayer-funded visit to one of the golf resorts he still profits from and said he wouldn't visit if elected."
Trump has spent nearly one-fifth (232 days) of his presidential term (1,072 days) on a golf course, according to the HuffPost's S.V. Daté.
