In the latest escalation of the continuing feud between Donald Trump and Jeff Sessions, the president sarcastically slammed his attorney general in a tweet Monday over charges brought last month against two Republican congressmen, suggesting the Department of Justice had harmed their chance of winning re-election in the November midterms.

"Two long running, Obama era, investigations of two very popular Republican Congressmen were brought to a well-publicized charge, just ahead of the midterms, by the Jeff Sessions Justice Department," Trump tweeted. "Two easy wins now in doubt because there is not enough time. Good job Jeff . . ."

Trump was referring to New York congressman Chris Collins and California congressman Duncan Hunter. Collins was charged with securities fraud and lying to the FBI about his efforts to tip off family members with information about nonpublic stock, according to The Hill.

Hunter and his wife have been charged with misusing $250,000 in campaign funds and falsifying records to the Federal Election Commission to hide the purchases.

Trump followed up the tweet with another one charging Democrats with hypocrisy.

"The Democrats, none of whom voted for Jeff Sessions, must love him now," the president tweeted. "Same thing with lyin' James Comey. The Dems all hated him, wanted him out, thought he was disgusting – UNTIL I FIRED HIM! Immediately, he became a wonderful man, a saint-like figure in fact. Really sick!"

Trump also tweeted about the 2020 presidential race.

"I see that John Kerry, the father of the now terminated Iran deal, is thinking of running for president," Trump wrote. "I should only be so lucky – although the field that is currently assembling looks really good – for me!"
