Republicans reportedly want nothing to do with whispers of a possible new attempt to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA), saying such a move would be disastrous.
One West Wing official told The Daily Beast it was a "suicide" mission, while a senior administration official said the president's team has concluded "the votes aren't there."
According to The Daily Beast, there are worries that talk of another ACA – or Obamacare repeal and replace, hints of which have been making the rounds in Washington, would trigger "a lose-lose situation" for the GOP.
"All these people out there not responsible for elected real-life senators don't seem to realize there are consequences for failed votes," said one top Senate GOP aide to The Daily Beast. "We experienced them last summer. I don't understand why we would want to have that again."
"I didn't hear anybody seriously talking about Obamacare," a House GOP lawmaker told the publication. "They have their panties in a bunch right now on immigration and, secondarily, on the [spending cuts] package."
