Republican voters want Obamacare to be repealed, according to private polling that party insiders have viewed, the Washington Examiner reports.

GOP voters have concerns about the American Health Care Act proposal, but repeal is more important to them, according to surveys of Republicans in battleground states and in House of Representatives' districts in which special elections are imminent, the Examiner notes.

"It's very popular among our folks, and this is a framework that we feel we can defend very well. We have a president in Republican districts that, in most cases, is more popular than the Republican congressional incumbent," said Rep. Steve Stivers of Ohio.

Pollsters who conducted those private surveys were not allowed to publicize the data that resulted, but they would discuss it in broad terms.

While Republican voters in battleground states want Congress to repeal and replace Obamacare swiftly, Democrats and independent voters in battleground states also look forward to healthcare reform, says Michael Meyers, a Republican consultant.

"Republicans are far more likely to advocate for full repeal and replace, while independents are pretty evenly split between full and partial repeal options, but both groups reject leaving ACA (Obamacare) as is. That is where voters are focused these days, not on the D.C. intrigue of legislating," Meyers told the Examiner.

Another Republican pollster said voters in Georgia, Montana, and South Carolina also want quick action.

"Republican voters are in lockstep in opposition to the Obamacare law, and want to see action. Anything less than that, likely to see a significant backlash," the pollster said.

Senior Republicans said that the House GOP's whip count, which notes the number of House Republicans who have committed to supporting the American Health Care Act proposal, shows that the proposal has strong support.

On Monday night, Republicans released some changes to a number of AHCA provisions, which included moving up the repeal of Obamacare taxes from 2018 to 2017, Business Insider reports.
