Nearly half of Republicans disapprove of House Speaker Paul Ryan — and even a greater number dislike Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a new Public Policy Polling survey shows.

Here are the results, released Wednesday, based on surveys of 1,222 registered voters:

Do you approve or disapprove of Paul Ryan as Speaker of the House?

Among Republicans:
  • Disapprove: 44 percent.
  • Approve: 40 percent.
Overall:
  • Disapprove: 48 percent.
  • Approve: 30 percent.
Here are the results from November, shortly after Ryan succeeded John Boehner as speaker in October:
  • Approve: 69 percent.
  • Disapprove: 14 percent.
"Paul Ryan's standing with Republicans nationally has declined precipitously since taking on the job as Speaker of the House," said Dean Debnam, Public Policy Polling's president. "They're not all that crazy about having him in that role, much less being the party's candidate for president."

Ryan is scheduled to meet with presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump on Thursday in a session that will center on "how to unify the Republican Party," the speaker said.

Here are the results about McConnell:

Do you approve or disapprove of Mitch McConnell as Senate Majority Leader?

Among Republicans:
  • Disapprove: 64 percent.
  • Approve: 14 percent.
Overall:
  • Disapprove: 66 percent.
  • Approve: 11 percent.
In other results:

Would you vote for a Senate candidate who supports Trump?
  • No: 45 percent.
  • Yes: 26 percent.
Do you approve or disapprove of the job Congress is doing?
  • Disapprove: 84 percent.
  • Approve: 9 percent.
The PPP survey was conducted between Friday and Monday and has a margin of error of 3.2 percent.
