West Virginia’s GOP Gov. Jim Justice said Sunday the state’s smooth rollout of the COVID-19 vaccination program for state residents made use of “practical smarts” — and declared the operation “could work anywhere.”
In an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” Justice said the state didn’t have the advantage of pharmacy chains to act as distribution points.
“We had to take the vaccines to the people rather than bring the people to the vaccine,” he said. “There's been a lot of work. It's just practical smarts, that's all there is to it.”
And, Justice asserted, “if we had an unlimited supply of vaccine, we would have every single breathing 65-year-old-plus vaccinated by Valentine's Day.”
But Justice encouraged other states to have a look at how West Virginia handled its distribution.
“This operation could work anywhere, it could be upscaled and down-sized,” he said, urging other governors that if their own plans aren’t working, “quit running the same play.”
“Call us up on the phone and we'll tell you exactly what to do,” he added. “This is not rocket science.”
