There has been a "night and day difference" in combating the illegal entry of migrants across the border since President Donald Trump entered the White House, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott told Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures."
"I don't think there has ever been a more sudden and swift change in any government operation than under President Trump when took the oath of office," the Republican governor said.
"In the first hour of his tenure in office, we saw the change where there was military sent to the border. The military were blocking people from crossing the border illegally. The number who crossed on the 19th of January dropped dramatically on the 20th of January and it has continued to drop since.
"The change is this: Suddenly now we have a commander in chief who cares about national security, who cares about securing the border, who is going to enforce the law."
"Those people who think they can cross the border and stay here in the country illegally now, those days are gone. Anybody apprehended across the border is going to be sent back immediately."
He said the effort is also being directed against criminal gangs and that he hopes such action can put them "out of business" regarding the problems they cause in the United States.
