Texas Gov. Abbott: Hillary Will Be 'Far Worse' Than Obama Agenda

(MSNBC/"Morning Joe")

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott initially backed Sen. Ted Cruz's candidacy for the White House, but on Monday called on the party to unite behind Donald Trump as the presumptive GOP nominee, as Hillary Clinton would "be far worse than just an extension of the Obama agenda."

"She promises to even worsen the Obama agenda," said Abbott, who was on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program to promote his new book, "Broken But Not Unbowed: The Fight to Fix a Broken America."

"Its not like none of the above is a potential option, and we see the devastation that Hillary Clinton would wreak upon the United States of America."

Abbott said he made it clear from the beginning that he would support whoever the eventual nominee is, and "obviously, Hillary is the wrong choice for America. The wrong choice for Texans. Texans will robustly come out and support a campaign against Hillary Clinton."

The governor said his new book is a story about his life and the challenges Americans face. He has used a wheelchair since he was 26-years-old, when he was injured while out jogging.

"A huge oak tree crashed down into any back, leaving me immediately paralyzed and never able to walk again," Abbott said. "I know what you're thinking, how slow was I jogging to get hit by a falling tree?"

He noted that he lives in a state "where a young man whose life is broken in half can rise up and be governor of the great state of Texas, that shows the kind of entrepreneurial spirit that we have in the Lone Star state."

Also, Abbott said, the accident put his life into perspective, and "my life has been better after my accident than before. Because it does put life into perspective. And part of the purpose of this book is to serve as an inspiration for others."

When it comes to the United States, he continued, "the future of America will be defined not how we're challenged, but how we respond to those challenges, which was the exact same thing that our Founders faced."
