Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform (ATR), has set up a "Taxpayer Protection Pledge" for presidential candidates, in which they promise to refrain from raising taxes. While former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman said earlier this week that he wouldn’t sign it, Norquist is confident that he’ll come around,
The Hill reports.
"I believe that if he's running for president as a Republican candidate, he'll sign the pledge," Norquist told The Hill. Huntsman formerly ambassador to China for President Barack Obama, said he wouldn’t sign any pledge, saying he opposes those kinds of maneuvers.
"I don't sign pledges,” Huntsman told reporters. “I was asked to sign a pledge when I ran for governor in 2004, and I didn't. And I got attacked because I didn't. And then we went around cutting and reforming taxes at record levels."
