Survey: '20 Campaign Hacking Likely, Political Consultants Say

Almost 90 percent of political consultants think it is likely one or both of the two major political parties' presidential campaigns will be the victim of a cyberattack before the 2020 election, according to the results of a new poll.

Key figures in the Campaigns & Elections magazine's State of the Campaign Industry Survey:

  • 87 percent said it is very or somewhat likely one or both major campaigns will be hacked next year.

  • 9 percent said a hack is somewhat or very unlikely.

  • 56 percent said it is very or somewhat likely "foreign interference will call into question" the 2020 presidential election results.

  • 82 percent said it is very or somewhat likely digital strategists will grow more comfortable using online disinformation tactics to hurt the chances of opposing candidates.

  • 50 percent said it is very or somewhat likely President Donald Trump will win reelection, while 45 percent said the opposite.

  • 26 percent said it is very or somewhat likely Trump will be impeached before next year's election.
