President Donald Trump is in favor of a bipartisan healthcare bill that would provide some support for the struggling Obamacare markets, according to a new report.
According to The Hill, Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., said Trump asked him about the bill when the two were together in Tennessee on Monday.
"He's for it," Alexander said.
Named after Alexander and Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., the bill would lower health insurance premiums for Americans who have insurance through Obamacare but do not receive government subsidies.
Alexander and Murray hoped the legislation would make it into the end-of-the-year government spending bill, but it was passed over. Alexander is still hopeful it will make it through the legislative process.
In an opinion piece for the Washington Examiner last month, Alexander tried to sell the bill as something that would lower premiums, decrease the federal debt, and give states more power to come up with healthcare ideas.
"Our goal will be to have a bipartisan proposal to lower insurance premiums that could be considered with the omnibus legislation when it's finally passed," Alexander said Tuesday.
