Despite recent reports stating that Hillary Clinton is running a "really, really cheap" presidential campaign, the Federal Election Commission revealed this week its top paid employee is Huma Abedin, who earned $69,263 for the first quarter of the campaign, The Weekly Standard reports.

Abedin is a longtime aide to Hillary Clinton and current vice chair of Hillary for America.

The Weekly Standard notes that Abedin will be set to receive $277,052.36 per year if she continues to receive disbursements in the same amount, which is more that Robby Mook, the campaign manager, who made $27,625.80 in the first quarter.

The FEC requires candidates to file quarterly reports, which showed the communications director, Jennifer Palmieri, making $31,710.91 in the first quarter and the chairman of the Clinton campaign, John Podesta, only making $3,586.00.

According to Politico, many political observers are surprised by Abedin's role in the Clinton campaign after she took a hiatus in 2013 to be a supportive spouse to her husband, former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, who was running for New York City Mayor.

Abedin jumped in for another tour with Clinton after her husband's bid imploded in a sexting scandal.

Politico reports that Abedin not only attends meetings for Hillary, but she is "overseeing the campaign operation and serving more often as an independent surrogate for her boss."
