Reince Priebus: 'The Evidence Is Clear' for Outside Probe of Clinton Foundation

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said a special prosecutor for Hillary Clinton was even more needed now after reports Tuesday many of the non-governmental people who met with the former secretary of state had been donors to the Clinton Foundation.

"The evidence is clear," Priebus charged. "It's time a special prosecutor be appointed to investigate the growing proof of pay-to-play at Hillary Clinton's State Department.

"This is among the strongest and most unmistakable pieces of evidence of what we've long suspected: at Hillary Clinton’s State Department, access to the most-sensitive policy makers in U.S. diplomacy was for sale to the highest bidder.

According to The Associated Press, 85 of the 154 people representing private interests who met or had telephone conversations scheduled with Clinton during her four years as the nation's top diplomat had donated as much as $156 million to her family foundation.

At least 40 contributed more than $100,000 each, while 20 gave over $1 million, the AP reported.

Priebus earlier Tuesday echoed Donald Trump's call for a special prosecutor into the Clinton Foundation.

"By not appointing a special prosecutor, President Barack Obama is endorsing the actions of a secretary of state who broke ethics agreements regarding foreign donations to her family foundation, who took a majority of her non-governmental meetings with donors to that foundation, and who exclusively conducted all of her correspondence while in office over a secret server housed in a basement to skirt transparency laws — and then lied about it to the American people," Priebus said.

"Before voters go to the polls, there needs to be an investigation."

In light of AP’s report, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani labeled the foundation "the Clinton Family racketeering enterprise."

"From the facts revealed to date, it is impossible to figure out where the Clinton Foundation ends and the State Department begins," he said. "It is now abundantly clear that the Clintons set up a business to profit from public office.

"They sold access and specific actions for money. This makes a mockery of her promise to Congress and the President to keep the Clinton Foundation and the State Department entirely separate.

"In other words, they merged the two into the Clinton Family racketeering enterprise," Giuliani said. "The need for a special prosecutor to investigate these apparent crimes mounts with every passing day — and each new revelation of e-mails and phone logs.

"I'm sure all we've seen is the tip of the iceberg and there will be more to follow."
