When Hillary Clinton asked where Bernie Sanders was when she was proposing sweeping health care reforms back in the 1990s, the answer it turns out was the Vermont senator was literally right behind her.

Clinton's egg-in-face faux pas was unmasked shortly after The New York Times' Amy Chozak tweeted from the Democratic presidential campaign trail on Saturday that Hillary told supporters:

Sanders' rapid response director Mike Casca quickly researched the claim and tracked down a December 1993 clip from C-SPAN in which Clinton, in her capacity as first lady, discusses health care reform during an address at Dartmouth College.

And who is right behind Clinton during her speech in a smart gray suit and maroon tie? Bernie Sanders.

Casca tweeted:

Also uncovered was a handwritten message to Sanders from Clinton, saying: "Thanks for your commitment to real health care access for all Americans."

According to Esquire, Clinton's communications director tried to repair the damage, tweeting:

Sanders told CNN on Sunday: "I think that Secretary Clinton is getting a little bit nervous. She lost last week in Michigan. I think she understands that the momentum in this campaign and the energy is with us, and that we have a good chance to win a number of states on Tuesday."

It's the second major gaffe in a week for Clinton, who last week gushed about Nancy Reagan's AIDS activism, only to have to apologize later when it turned out to be false.
