Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, on Wednesday launched a blistering attack against Attorney General William Barr, accusing him of lying to Congress and covering up for President Donald Trump.

“Now we know more about your deep involvement in trying to cover up for Donald Trump,” Hirono said during a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee. “Being attorney general … is a sacred trust. You have betrayed that trust, America deserves better. You should resign.”

Barr expressed no regrets Wednesday over his handling of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report and defended his decision-making even after the release of a letter Mueller sent to Barr, which said that Barr’s four-page summary “did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance” of his investigation.

“You told Sen. Chris Van Hollen you didn’t know if Robert Mueller supported your conclusions, but you knew you lied and now we know,” Hirono said.

“Now the American people know that you are no different from Rudy Giuliani, or Kellyanne Conway, or any of the other people who sacrificed their once-decent reputations for the grifter and liar who sits in the Oval Office,” she added.

Mueller’s report stopped short of recommending charges against Trump for obstruction of justice but listed at least 10 potential instances of obstruction of justice that suggest, at the very least, that the president actively sought to undermine Mueller’s investigation.
