Donald Trump swears "the Hispanics love me" and that he'll win the presidency with their votes, but a group of conservative Hispanics say that's not so,
Politico reports.
A group of dozens of conservative Hispanics met in Boulder, Colorado on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday's Republican debate there.
"We'll be very clear, Trump is done. If Trump is the GOP nominee he will not have our support. We will not work to elect him," Alfonso Aguilar, who leads the American Principles Project's Latino Partnership, told Politico. "If Donald Trump is the GOP nominee the Republican party will lose the White House in the next election. So Trump is out, we’ve excommunicated him. He's done."
Hispanics are angry over Trump's rhetoric over illegal immigration, Aguilar said. Trump has said he wants to deport everyone in the country illegally, then allow those who are not criminals back in.
Aguilar, who was director of the U.S. Office of Citizenship under President George W. Bush, said all candidates should be on notice.
"Foolishly, some candidates don’t think they need the Hispanic vote in the primary … heed our warning – don’t expect us to come to your side during the general election," said Rosario Marin, former Treasurer under George W. Bush. "Maybe some candidates believe that we will forget, let me be crystal clear. We won't."
Marin refused even to utter Trump's name, Politico said, because it would "dirty her mouth."
