Ruth Guerra, the Republican National Committee's head of Hispanic media relations is leaving her job this month to join a GOP-aligned super PAC that will focus on congressional races, The New York Times reports.

The Times quoted two RNC aides as saying that Guerra had said earlier this year she was not comfortable working to promote Trump's candidacy among fellow Hispanics when he is seen by many in the community as opposed to them.

Trump has proposed building a wall along the border and making Mexico pay for it and angered many when he suggested Mexico was sending their worst citizens, including drug dealers, murderers and rapists into the United States.

Guerra's new position at the American Action Network is considered a promotion, one co-worker told the Times.

Guerra would not discuss her feelings about Trump with the Times, but did say, "I've had a great nearly two years at the RNC, and I'm excited for the new opportunities that I will have at AAN."

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus announced late Wednesday that veteran journalist Helen Aguirre Ferré will take over as the RNC’s director of Hispanic communications.
