A group of House Republicans is set to introduce a resolution on Tuesday demanding the appointment of a second special counsel to investigate alleged misconduct at the FBI and Justice Department, Fox News has reported.

The resolution will seek a probe related to three topics: The ending of the investigation into Hillary Clinton's personal email server, the evolution of the Trump-Russia probe from its beginning through the appointment of Robert Mueller as special counsel, and abuses of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) during the warrant application process.

The resolution - which is backed by House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows, along with two of the group’s co-founders Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan and Florida Rep. Ron DeSantis - is expected to say that a second special counsel is needed because he would have greater autonomy to look into these issues than the Justice Department's Office of the Inspector General.

The resolution comes less than a day after the Justice Department announced its request that Inspector General Michael Horowitz expand his review of the FBI’s “Russian collusion” probe to include possible abuses of the surveillance application process and political motivation, according to RT.

The Justice Department request came just hours after President Donald Trump demanded an investigation on Twitter.
