Conservative Boston radio host Howie Carr revealed in a Boston Herald column that he tried but failed to secretly test Sen. Elizabeth Warren's DNA to check out her claims of Native American heritage.

Carr explained that in 2012, when she was campaigning in Worcester, one of his employees tricked her into autographing a copy of her "Pow Wow Chow" cookbook and handed her the book and a pen.

"Before she realized she was being pranked, [she] pulled the cap off the pen — with her teeth," Carr wrote. "I sent the pen off for testing. But alas, there wasn't enough saliva on it."

Carr went on to challenge Warren to take a DNA test to prove her claims, although he said that "she probably already has taken the test, and, uh, not gotten the results she was hoping for."

Carr's revelation comes amid continued attention on her claims of Native American ancestry, especially since President Donald Trump continues to mock her for it.

Warren has been defiant about the issue, saying as recently as last month, according to the Boston Globe, that "my mother's family was part Native American. And my daddy's parents were bitterly opposed to their relationship. So in 1932, when Mother was 19 and Daddy had just turned 20, they eloped."

Warren insisted "the story they lived will always be a part of me. And no one — not even the president of the United States — will ever take that part of me away."
