Mike Huckabee has accused the media of acting as Hillary Clinton's "hand maidens" by making a "ridiculous fuss" over the Melania Trump plagiarism flap.
"While Hillary Clinton's hand maidens in the media continue to snipe and snark at the first night convention speakers, they came off like children sticking their tongues out at their elders," Huckabee wrote in a scathing missive posted on his Facebook page late Wednesday morning.
The former Arkansas governor, who was a GOP presidential candidate until dropping out earlier this year, said the Republican National Convention so far has produced some powerful speeches — not that you'd know it by listening to news reports.
"And I'm not just referring to the ridiculous fuss being made over two dozen words of standard boilerplate from Melania Trump's speech that was similar to Michelle Obama's speech from eight years ago (when Barack used lines from Deval Patrick, that wasn't plagiarism, it was "inspiration")," Huckabee said.
"When any of Mrs. Trump's ankle-biters can, like her, give a nationally-televised speech with that much poise in one of the four languages they speak that are not their native tongues, then I'll listen to them carp."
Huckabee hailed the speeches delivered by "non-politicians ... military people and everyday Americans," which he said focused on "how Obama/Clinton policies have undermined America's safety and prosperity."
"If you didn't watch the convention streaming online or at CSPAN, you likely missed these speeches while talking heads jabbered incessantly about how awful they were without actually listening to them," Huckabee complained.
After Huckabee ended his run for president, he came out in support of Donald Trump, the billionaire real-estate tycoon who on Tuesday was officially anointed as the 2016 Republican presidential nominee.
