Newt Gingrich: Trump Should Focus on Economy, Virus, Biden Emails

(Fox News' "Fox & Friends")

By    |   Monday, 26 October 2020 03:20 PM EDT

President Donald Trump could focus his remaining campaign days on the coronavirus, his successes with the economy, and on the "corruption" that has been revealed about the Democrat Party's nominee Joe Biden and his family, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Monday.

If Trump focuses on those three topics, "he will win a surprisingly big election," Gingrich told Fox News' "Fox & Friends."

"It's very simple," Gingrich said. "He's got to win the argument that what we have done on COVID has worked. Look, Spain just went into an emergency shutdown until next April. Italy has announced no restaurants.

"Trump has done a much better job than these other countries."

Trump must also draw a contrast between how he will handle the economy as compared to Biden.

"Trump represents a recovery," Gingrich said. "Biden represents a depression."

And then, "there is the sheer overt corruption of the Biden family, particularly with relationship to China, Russia, and Ukraine," Gingrich said.

The former speaker also, like Trump, ridiculed Biden for referring to a "George" during a Sunday night interview, when he replied to a question that "four more years of George, er, George, er, he — we're going to find ourselves in a position where, if Trump gets elected, we're going to be in a different world."

Other observers, however, thought that perhaps Biden was referring to comedian George Lopez, who was interviewing him, reports Fox News.

"Let me suggest to you a presidential candidate cannot remember that his opponent is Donald and is somehow, I guess, flashing back to either '92 or 2000 or something, who thinks he is running against the Bushes, who knows what he is going to do with the Supreme Court and oil," Gingrich said. "This is a guy who is not totally there. Having said that, I think there were two big outcomes of that mistake. It is frankly good of the president to let him talk. When he lets Biden talk, he makes mistakes."
