GOP lawmaker Ileana Ros-Lehtinen on Wednesday tweeted her satisfaction with the removal of Stephen Bannon from the National Security Council, calling it "welcome news."

Ros-Lehtinen, R-Florida, had panned the move by President Donald Trump back in January.

"Although presidents structure the NSC as they see fit, Bannon should write himself out of this role on the council," Ros-Lehtinen, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said in a statement Jan. 30.

Many lawmakers on both sides of the aisle voiced opposition to the move months ago, not wanting to see the NSC burdened down by politics.

Trump's Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and Joint Chiefs Chairman Joseph Dunford have been restored to the Principal's Committee.
