The head of the Republican National Committee on Sunday defended President Donald Trump’s controversial tweet of a video featuring an illegal immigrant bragging about killing police officers.
In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Ronna McDaniel, chair of the Republican National Committee, said the video of a gleefully unrepentant Luis Bracamontes, who was deported multiple times, and the migrant caravan shows “exactly why our immigration system is failing.”
“We didn't want him in the country — he killed police,” she said. “That's not good. This is exactly why our immigration system is failing. And [the president is] pointing that out…”
“There’s only one person right now talking about fixing it and that's the president,” she added.
She also railed at Democrats in Congress for their “resist and obstruct” agenda.
“What Democrat is leading on any issue?” she said. “How many of them are coming to the table saying, ‘I have a solution. Let's work with this president’?
“Name one that said, ‘Let's unify this week,’ when the president went forward and said, ‘This is a time to unify’? They said, ‘No’, we're going to make it political again. I do not see a single Democrat saying let's bring this country together. I only see them running on resist and obstruct.”
“Even with these good economic numbers, they can't even tout how good our country is doing right now.”
"We are going to the American people and saying we have delivered, your lives are better,” she added. “. The economy’s booming. Let’s not go back.”
