Railing against the Democrats' refusal to conduct an official impeachment proceeding, President Donald Trump said they are doing the inquiry in secret because "they don't want the facts to come out."
"What they're doing now is something that's never been done before," Trump told Fox News' "Hannity." "They don't want the facts to come out."
Trump did celebrate the fact most of the Democrats' witnesses – who he says he only knows most of them by name, not personally – are "actually turning out to be better witnesses for us."
But, still, refusing to vote for official impeachment proceedings is precluding Republicans from calling witnesses to make its case against articles of impeachment, Trump laments.
"We have no lawyers – Republicans, because it's the minority – we have no lawyers," Trump told host Sean Hannity. "We can't question; we can't do a thing. They can't even go in the room in many cases."
The unfairness of the process is being proven by the Democrats' actions, Trump said.
"To impeach over a letter like that – but they don't mention the letter anymore," he said of the transcript of the July 25 call with the Ukraine president. "They don't mention whistleblowers, and they don't mention any of these people anymore."
"Adam Schiff said he don't want the whistleblower anymore, you know why? Because he might have given the whistleblower the things to say," Trump added later.
"To me impeachment is just a dirty, disgusting word," he continued. "The only reason they're impeaching is they're looking at the polls. Moody's just came out with three scenarios: Trump wins easily. ... Who would play a dirty game like this?"
