President-elect Donald Trump said he would meet with U.S. intelligence officials on the Russian hacking situation after President Barack Obama issued sanctions Thursday against Moscow for meddling in last month's election.

"It's time for our country to move on to bigger and better things," Trump said in a statement.

"Nevertheless, in the interest of our country and its great people, I will meet with leaders of the intelligence community next week in order to be updated on the facts of this situation."

President Barack Obama issued executive orders Thursday that expelled 35 Russian diplomats and closed two Russian compounds in response to Russia's hacking of the Democratic National Committee and other party operatives and for harassing U.S. diplomats.

"I think we ought to get on with our lives," Trump told reporters Wednesday in Florida ahead of the sanctions.

"I think that computers have complicated lives very greatly," he said outside his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. "The whole age of computers has made it where nobody knows exactly what is going on."
