Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating Ivanka Trump in connection with a meeting that took place during the 2016 presidential campaign involving a Russian lawyer who reportedly had damaging information about Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, The Hill reported Saturday.
Ivanka Trump, President Donald Trump's daughter, did not attend the meeting, but reportedly encountered the lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, at the escalator prior to the Trump Tower meeting where the two exchanged "pleasantries," a source told the Los Angeles Times.
Mueller is investigating any interactions between Trump's family members and associates in connection with Veselnitskaya and lobbyist Rinat Akhmetshin. Details of Ivanka Trump's interaction with the Russian lawyer and lobbyist were not previously known.
Donald Trump Jr., Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and former campaign chairman Paul Manafort attended the meeting. Donald Trump Jr. has maintained the meeting primarily centered around American adoptions of Russian children.
