The House Oversight Committee is investigating claims by conservatives that American banks have been "debanked" based on their political views, Rep James Comer told Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures."
"We've heard numerous instances of conservatives being debanked," said the Kentucky Republican, who is chair of the House Oversight Committee.
"And what we want to know, Is this a process of the bank's ESG [environmental, social, and governance] policy or is this our government stepping in — like what we found with Twitter and Facebook, where the government stepped in and said they wanted certain conservatives deplatformed and censored and certain conservative content removed?"
According to Comer, outspoken conservative activists including those involved in certain energy businesses were particularly targeted.
He said the banks will be asked many questions during the probe and "hopefully we can get some answers."
The committee chair said the accusations are not that conservatives were denied loans, but that they were not permitted to even open up an account.
Comer also commented on former President Joe Biden issuing pardons to many of his family members just 20 minutes before the end of his time in the White House, saying this "was an admission of guilt by Joe Biden, and everyone in America knows it."
He didn't even have "the courage or the guts to have a press conference to announce it."
Comer said efforts to get those who are involved with the alleged schemes will hopefully continue and that the "deep state actors" who enabled the activities will be help accountable, adding that he did not think these pardons would hold up in court.
Comer stressed that he does not think that the average American "has much sympathy for a president that in his last act in office pardons his entire family for financial public corruption and didn't have the guts to tell anyone why he did it."
