Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., is pledging to "step in" if Joe Biden doesn't have access to intelligence briefings by Friday.
His comments came Wednesday during an interview on KRMG's "In Depth" podcast. Lankford was asked about Biden not getting the briefings.
"That should be resolved by Friday," he said. "The GSA [General Services Administration] has to certify that election to start turning it around. The first day they can do that on the calendar is Friday.
"There is no loss from him getting the briefings and to be able to do that and if that's not occurring by Friday I will step in as well, and to be able to push and to say this needs to occur so that regardless of the outcome of the election people can be ready for that actual task."
And he said: "There's nothing wrong with the former vice president getting those."
In a Wednesday tweet, however, Lankford made it clear that President Donald Trump has the right to seek election recounts.
He wrote: "President @realDonaldTrump is fully in his right to ask for recounts and for every legal question to be fully vetted and resolved. It is important for the 71 million Americans that voted for President Trump that at the end of all this their questions are answered."
Mainstream news organizations called the election for Biden on Saturday, but the president has refused to concede, alleging election irregularities in several states, and has gone to court over the outcome. Newsmax has not called the race, instead waiting for the legal process to play out.
