House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz said Wednesday that he has yet to receive a copy of the federal government's contract with President Donald Trump's luxury hotel in Washington amid concerns about whether the lease violates the law.
"I did request from the GSA the full, un-redacted contract," the Utah Republican, referring to the General Services Administration, told reporters at the party's retreat in Philadelphia, The Hill reports. "I requested that the first part of December.
"I still don’t have it.
"It will be interesting to see what they produce and what their take on that is," Chaffetz added. "But I don’t have that yet."
The Trump International Hotel is located in the Old Post Office building, which is owned by the federal government.
Trump's GSA contract bars elected officials from being a party to the lease or benefitting from it.
The hotel, which opened in September, is located within blocks of the White House.
Democrats have demanded that the GSA clarify whether Trump has violated the lease, but agency officials have remained silent on the issue.
Chaffetz also told reporters that his panel had no plans to investigate Trump’s unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud during the November election.
"I don’t see any evidence, but the president has 100,000 people at the Department of Justice, so if he wants to do an investigation, have at it," Chaffetz said. "I just don’t see any evidence of it.
"I’m not planning on spending resources looking at that," he added. "It's not something we’re pursuing."
