Trump a 'Liar' If He Doesn't Protect DACA: Hispanic Chamber Chief

A member of Donald Trump's diversity council told CNN on Monday he might step down if the president terminates the program protecting "Dreamers."

Javier Palomarez, the head of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, told Jim Acosta he plans to work, "right up until the bloody end to try to convince this president to do the right thing by these 800,000 Dreamers who reside in this country."

Politico on Sunday reported Trump had decided to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals with a six-month delay and was set to announce the move Tuesday. The Obama-era program grants amnesty to undocumented immigrants who entered the United States as children.

When asked by Acosta whether he would leave the diversity council, Palomarez answered: "That is correct, but again, Jim, I'm going to work with him and his administration."

Palomarez said he hoped the president would change his mind and said if he did not, it would show "that he is a liar."

"These are the types of moments that define people, that define American leaders," he said. "I hope they will step up to this challenge."

"He has said he's going to try to protect the people in the DACA program, that he was focused on getting rid of criminals," he added. "We certainly support that piece of his thinking."
