Former Republican Florida Gov. Jeb Bush took aim at Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., Saturday on Twitter, condemning her "terrible judgement" regarding a former aide who is under investigation for fraud, The Hill reported Sunday.
"The incompetence and terrible judgment displayed by Debbie Wasserman Schultz and House Democrats is jarring," tweeted Bush, who ran for president in 2016.
Schultz is facing scrutiny over her decision to keep IT aide Imran Awan on her staff months after finding out he was under investigation for fraud. Several other congressional Democrats who also employed Awan fired him upon learning he was under investigation.
Awan was arrested on a bank fraud charge at Dulles International Airport in Virginia last month where he was allegedly planning to board a plane for Pakistan, Politico reported. He is prevented from leaving the country while the charge is pending.
Schultz defended her decision to keep Awan on her staff while he was under investigation, claiming she was concerned whether he had received due process in the investigation.
"When their investigation was reviewed with me, I was presented with no evidence of anything that he was being investigated for. And so that, in me, gave me great concern that his due process rights were being violated. There were racial and ethnic profiling concerns that I had," she told The Orlando Sentinel Thursday.
