A frequent critic of President Donald Trump who has subsequently elected to retire, Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., took to Twitter to continue his line in the sand against the Trump-led Republican Party, calling out apologists of accused GOP Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore.

Moore has been accused of a sexual encounter with an underage female 38 years ago amid his campaign to succeed U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions' Alabama Senate seat, allegations Moore has called "completely false."

Flake added a tweet for Moore to remove himself from the Alabama Senate race.

Sen. Flake, who has elected to retire from the Senate after his term ends, admitted he could not win re-election without backing the president he rejects, President Trump.

Flake has recently released a book denouncing the path of the Trump-led GOP, "Conscience of a Conservative: A Rejection of Destructive Politics and a Return to Principle."

Through White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, President Trump maintained "if these allegations are true, Judge Moore will do the right thing and step aside."

President Trump himself was subject to sexual misconduct allegations during his own campaign in 2016, added through Sanders, a "mere allegation" from many years ago should not be allowed to destroy a person's life.

The allegations against Moore have already cost him campaign funding, according to reports, if not the Dec. 12 special election. The National Republican Senate Committee has cut it fundraising ties with Moore, The Daily Beast reported.
