After the Environmental Protection Agency announced on Tuesday that it will allow states more flexibility in dealing with greenhouse gas emissions, California Gov. Jerry Brown sent out a tweet slamming the decision.
“This is a declaration of war against America and all of humanity — it will not stand,” Brown said. “Truth and common sense will triumph over Trump’s insanity.”
California has some of the strictest environmental regulations in the country and was a big backer of President Barack Obama’s Clean Power Plan, the centerpiece of his attempt to slow the flow of heat-trapping emissions into the atmosphere and to combat climate change, according to The Sacramento Bee.
President Donald Trump’s decision rolls back the Obama-era regulations, which restricted greenhouse gas emissions from coal-fired power plants.
The Trump administration has criticized Obama’s policy as “overly prescriptive and burdensome,” adding that the new proposal “instead empowers states, promotes energy independence, and facilitates economic growth and job creation,” CNBC reported.
