Heritage's DeMint: Trump 'Engaged,' 'Ready to Listen' on AHCA

CNN's "State of the Union"

President Donald Trump wants to get new healthcare legislation passed quickly because of "how destructive Obamacare has been to our healthcare system," but he is not opposed to "improvements," Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint said Sunday.

"He's very engaged, very open to improve the bill, but he's very supportive of the idea of getting this repeal through," DeMint told CNN's "State of the Union."

As motivated as Trump is to an immediate repeal, DeMint said he is not forcing the AHCA without negotiation.

"The first part of every conversation you have with him is how destructive Obamacare has been to our healthcare system, so he's ready to listen for improvements," DeMint told host Jake Tapper.

The Heritage Foundation is a Washington, D.C., conservative think tank, and conservatives have panned the AHCA in its current form.
